A heartfelt harmonic adaptation of the 1994 Disney movie based upon one lion’s tale of pride and deception. The story begins at sunrise in the depths of the jungle when all the gathered animals are presented with new born cub Simba, the son of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. Simba’s evil uncle Scar’s hopes and dreams of becoming King get pushed further down the timeline with the arrival of new cub, something which Scar is unwilling to accept. Scar plots to murder both Simba and his father (the King) in hope of promulgate himself as king. His attempts to kill Simba fail yet he is forced to believe that he is the cause of his fathers’ death which leaves Simba deciding to flee the Kingdom.

The theatre adaptation debuted October 1999 at the Lyceum Theatre in London and has been active ever since. The production will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and what a proud honour it hails to be. Over the years, The Lion King has won numerous awards including 6 Tony’s, 8 Drama Desk Awards, 2 Moliere Awards and the coveted 1998 Theatre World Award.

However, as apocryphal as the tale may be, the music behind the success is a spectacle in its own right. With 10 numbers written by the infamous Elton John along with the remarkable Tim Rice, what else can you expect other than 160 minutes of sheer musical ingenious.

A definite must-watch and by far one of the greatest tales’s ever told, supported by 15 stunning musical masterpieces. Missing out on a trip to the Lyceum Theatre to watch The Lion King may be one of your greatest regrets on a visit to London.
